Fast installation of fiber optical cables - TERRA-JET DJ 10 XL / DJ 13
Machine technology This contractor decided to use his HDD machine TERRA-JET DJ 10 XL (old name: TJ 1804 XL) for this task. This HDD machine is designed for extremely high productivity. In good underground the DJ 10 XL realises 200 m every day. It has 4 to (10'000 lbs) thrust and pullback force and a torque of 1'800 Nm (1'325 ft.lbs) at the drilling tool. For the soft Dutch grounds, which require high drilling fluid volumes, the DJ 10 XL was equipped with an extra large drilling fluid pump with a volume of 150 ltr/min (40 gpm). This is unique worldwide.
Job realization We had the opportunity to visit the experienced drill masters for one day. In the morning at 9 h a 135 m (445 ft) long bore was started. At 11 h the up to 4 m (14 ft) deep pilot bore has been finished. Before lunch time the 135 m long bore was completed after less than 3 hours and the fiber optic main cable had been pulled in. After lunch the TERRA-JET DJ 10 XL was turned by 180 degrees. The second 120 m (400 ft) long pilot bore was started.
