Replacement of old pipes 5“ – 20“ (Ø 125 - 500 mm)

    For replacement of old pipes 5'' – 20'' (Ø 125 - 500 mm) from cast iron, steel, clay ware or PE/PVC. New HDPE pipes Ø 125 – 500 mm (5'' – 20'') are pulled in.


    Lengths up to 120 m (400 ft).
    Maximum pulling force: 1000 kN (100 tons / 220'000 lbs / 110 US tons).


    The pulling cable is slid into the old pipe. Then the cutting tool and the expander cone are assembled and are pulled in with the new HDPE pipe. At the same time the old pipe is cut in the ground.


    Special cables Ø 48 mm (1.9'') are used with safety factor S=2.


    Heavy mechanical cable drum recommended.

Horizontal Cable Pulling

    Cable bursters with pulling forces up to 40 tonnes are equipped with a large pulley which deflects the pulling cable from horizontal to vertical. Then the cable clamps pull vertically. A pulling force of 1000 kN (100 tonnes) would require a very large pulley and a very heavy vertical pulling mechanism. This is why the engineers of TERRA decided to keep the pulling cable horizontal. The cable clamps pull horizontal. Behind the clamps the cable is deflected with no load into the vertical direction out of the pit.

Hydraulic Clamps

    The cable burster X 1000 operates with a main clamp and a counter clamp. Both clamps are driven by large hydraulic cylinders with clamping forces up to 1'000 kN (100 tonnes).


    The TERRA-EXTRACTOR X 1000 is equipped with six hydraulic cylinders, four for clamping and two for pulling. The main clamp is closed hydraulically (clamping force 100 tonnes), the pulling cylinders drive out (pulling force 100 tonnes, stroke 0.5 m/20”). Then the counter clamps are closed, the main clamp is opened and the pulling cylinders are driven in again. Now the next stroke can begin. One cycle needs 10 seconds. This correlates to a bursting speed of 180 m/h (600 ft/h).

Clamps with longitudinal Slot Bottom Channel

    The clamps must grip either a new clean cable or a used dirty cable. Therefore the clamps are equipped with longitudinal Slot Bottom Channel. This patented idea increases the clamping force and offers storage space for dirt.

Special Cable on a hydraulic Cable Drum

    The cable burster X 1000 operates with a special cable Ø 48 mm (1.9“). It is high-tensile and flexible. With a maximum load of nearly 200 tonnes the cable burster X 1000 operates with a safety factor of 2.0. Especially for this cable TERRA has designed a special spelter socket with an inner thread for the bursting tools. The special cable weights 11 kg/m (7.3 lbs/ft).


    A small cable winch pulls the special cable through the old pipe. On the other end it its reeled on a hydraulic cable drum.

Hydraulics

    The hydraulic power pack X 1000 operates with two separate hydraulic circuits. The pulling circuit requires 200 ltr @ 250 bar (50 gpm @ 3'600 psi). With this oil volume a complete 0.5 m stroke takes approximately 10 seconds. The second circuit has 40 ltr/min @ 250 bar (10 gpm @ 3'600 psi). It drives the clamps.


    Obviously the X 1000 can also be connected to the hydraulics of an excavator.

Operation from the top

    The control panel stands outside of the machine pit on top of the road. During operation no operator is in the machine pit. It is not necessary to assemble or disassemble any rod during bursting. This increases the safety for the personnel.
